How VA Math Works
VA combines ratings from highest to lowest, carries the unrounded combined value forward, and rounds only the final value to the nearest 10%.
Example: 50% + 30% ≠ 80%
- Start with 100% efficiency (whole body)
- 50% disability = 50% of 100 = 50 lost → 50% remaining
- 30% disability = 30% of 50 = 15 lost → 35% remaining
- Total disability = 100 - 35 = 65%
- Rounded to nearest 10 = 70%
